Some of you have already seen my Dads boat I aquired, but here it is for the rest. I'm still working on it, hope to have it in the water in a couple weeks. It's a 1979 Starcraft Super Sport 18', my Dad bought it new in the summer of 79 so it's been in the family for 32 years.

1965 Keaton Runabout, 390, Velvet Drive. Almost all original, when my brother got it, it had a 427 side oiler in it that was worth a lot more than the boat so he rebuilt a 390 for it. Cam, Holley 750, Edelbrock intake, MSD Pro-Billet Distributor and some head work. It scoots :vib::vib::vib:

What happened to the side oiler? Dad built a 16' Guasti in the 60's that ran a low rise 427 at about 85 or so in the 1/4 mile, that motor turned 8k on the mechanical tach. with 1:1 gears in the v-drive, super quick.

Funny, I haven't heard the term flat bottom is years... Keaton was/is out of Sacramento Ca and in the 60's and 70's was THE boat to have around the region. Keaton's old shop is just down the street from where our current UTV shop is. I graduated HS with one of his sons and played on a traveling American Legion with him, so knew the dad just never through boating. I remember back in the day Keatons were regulars on the pages of Hot Boat magazine and won some water ski national titles. I bet your dad knows what a Keaton is. I've only got a couple hours in it, but it rides pretty nice, although it did porpoise some when the going got rough. Side Oiler had tunnel port heads which apparently means something :-) Bro kept the engine, not sure what he'll do with it, maybe do a nice AC Cobra replica...

Dad drag raced our boat in the late 60's early 70's, raced against Hondos, Sangers, Nordskogs (yes, Bob Nordskog, editor/publisher of Hot Boat at the time). Hondo and Sanger were Fresno area builders. Guasti was set up/molded in Guasti, CA, out in Riverside county by the Guasti family. Dad bought the bare hull, had wood deck put on and did all the build himself. One of the prettiest boats you ever saw. We also skied with it, mostly at Parker.

70% of Keatons were sold the same way, owner provided and installed powertrain. They are well known in Nor Cal and the Delta as are Sangers. Hondo and Guasti are new names to me.

I bought it off the original owner 3/4ton 4x4 - I picked it up for 2 grand only used it to put the boat in and out of the water - salt fucks up everything. I sold the truck 5 years later for $3500:vib::vib::vib::vib::vib:
