Well, most of you don't know, but the Gearbox is in the shop.

I brought it in to the local RV shop to get the wheel bearings done, since it sat buried axle deep in the mud for a weekend.

Upon inspecting the frame, we discovered two breaks in the welds. One where the a-frame of the tongue attaches to the trailer frame on the side and one on the front crossmember on the left side. These are what was causing the separation of my filon up front. Fortunately, insurance is covering most of the repairs.

The shop specializes in RV body and mechanical, so the GB is in good hands.

They'll be replacing the filon and diamond plate up front along with replacing the insulation and trim on the front. They'll also be repairing the frame, replacing the front crossmember and gusseting/boxing in the repaired areas and other potential weak spots, to make a stronger chassis.

I have some pics I'll post later....

thought that mud would be a problem, that thing was sitting pretty deep.

Have them put in the double lip seals on the hubs when they do it, nice seals.

Nice that your insurance is paying for the repairs.

I made that mistake on my Weekend Wobbler. I pumped grease into my brakes - ended up having to replace the whole brake assembly.........

Check and re-pack once a year and replace the double lip seal every couple years is my plan on the new trailer. Seals are $4 and full bearing kits with races, seal, cotter pin and new washer are under $20..........

That's what I do. I don't trust the Bearing Buddies at all.

Wendy gets the credit for finding it. It was her call to put the trailer in the shop and have it checked out.

Picked the trailer up today.
New front crossmember, gusseted and welded the full length.
A-frame rewelded and plated.
The whole thing was put on a frame straightener prior to welding.
New front cap, diamond plate and trim.
The new diamond plate is about 3x the thickness of the original.

And of course, got the new Magic Chef oven installed.

Here's a couple of pics...
